I will be modelling/texturing the winning motorcycles from the Isle of Man TT in the years 1907, 1957 and 2007. I will also be modelling/texturing a motorcycle set in the year 2057.
The 1907 motorcycle is the Matchless four-stroke, in which Charlie Collier won the first ever Isle of Man TT. The 1957 motorcycle is based on Bob McIntyre’s four-stroke Gilera. The last of my past TT winning motorcycles I will be modelling/texturing is the 2007 Honda CBR1000 ridden by the legend TT rider John McGuinness. I will also be modelling/texturing a futuristic concept motorcycle set in the year 2057.
Upon the motorcycles being complete I will be producing hi-res screenshots of the motorcycles as well as promotional artwork and concept art for the 2057 motorcycle.
Formed in the year 1907, the Isle of Man TT is one of the most prestige motorcycle events of the year. Motorcycle fans from all over the world attend the event to either watch the race or race around the circuit on their own motorcycles. Due to this, I feel that using the Isle of Man TT as my project foundation will add substance to the overall theme of the project. Also, motorcycle enthusiasts who will be viewing my work will be able to give me strong constructive criticisms to help me improve the final renders.
I have chosen a motorcycle subject matter for numerous reasons. Firstly, motorcycle related computer games and other motorcycle mediums have always had commercial success from a sales point of view. Secondly, I feel that being able to model, texture and concept something as challenging as a motorcycle to a high standard would not only benefit my modelling/texturing skills; yet, it would show a potential employer that I have strong skills in vehicle 3D/2D art.
I will be using traditional methods of illustration when developing concept designs for my 2057 concept motorcycle. However, I will be applying computer based painting packages onto the concepts to add colour and mood to the designs. The pre-production computer based packages I will be using are Corel Painter X, Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Illustrator.
I will however, be developing a 3D prototype motorcycle in the pre-production stage for research purposes and I will be using 3D Studio MAX 8 and Adobe Photoshop CS3/CS4 to create that.
In regards to my 3D work in the production stage, I will be using the computer software 3D Studio Max 8, Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Z-Brush.
There is already a set target audience for my project, as motorcycles are vastly popular all over the world and the Isle of Man TT is one of the largest are prestige’s events of the year. There have been previous attempts at an Isle of Man TT computer racing title on the Sony Playstation 2 console. Yet, that particular title was not a commercial success; however, this was due to the little marketing and in my opinion, poor development execution.
Approximately 300,000 people attend the Isle of Man TT every year therefore, I feel that if a TT related entertainment medium was correctly developed, then it would surely be a commercial success.
I will be examining the IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) sanctioned on the Isle of Man TT website to ensure that I will be working within all the regulations set by the main TT bodies. I will also be contacting Duke Marketing or DTL who work on behalf of the Isle of Man TT to ensure all the IPR regulations are set in place. I will be informing them of my project and will hopefully have in writing a response confirming my project does not inflict on any set regulation that the DTL have put in place.
